Yaz Birth Control Pill Information

Yaz birth control pills are combination oral contraceptives (COCs) designed to prevent pregnancy. The birth control pill works by preventing ovulation and making it difficult for sperm to reach the uterus by causing changes in the cervical and uterine lining. Yaz is a combination tablet of drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol.

Yaz Tablets and Risks
Yaz birth control tablets should be taken once daily, at the same time each day. This type of birth control pill has been associated with dangerous health risks and is not recommended for women with the following conditions:
  • High blood pressure
  • Migraine headaches
  • Heart valve disorder
  • Kidney or liver problems
  • Adrenal gland disorder
  • Unusual vaginal bleeding
  • Breast, uterine or any form of hormone-dependant cancer
  • History of jaundice
  • Gallbladder diseases
  • Diabetes
  • Seizures or epilepsy
  • High cholesterol
Yaz has also been linked to birth defects and should not be taken if pregnant or breast-feeding. Women who take Yaz birth control pills are advised not to smoke, as smoking may increase a risk of health problems.

Yaz Inactive White Pills

 A Yaz pill pack consists of 24 light pink active tablets and four inert white pills. A normal dose is one pink tablet every day (at the same time) for 24 consecutive days followed by one white pill for the next four days. Women should have their menstrual cycle while taking the inactive white pills.

Yaz Morning After Pill

Women have reported to have taken Yaz as a form of the 'day after pill.' Meaning, they double the dose two days in a row after having unprotected intercourse. According to some reviews, side effects of using Yaz as a morning after treatment may include nausea, upset stomach, vaginal discharge and an irregular menstrual cycle.

Possible Side Effects of Yaz

Yaz birth control pills have been associated with side effects, ranging from minor to severe. As with most birth control methods, minor side effects may include breast tenderness, weight gain, emotional problems, moodiness, change in menstrual cycle, breakthrough bleeding and more.
The side effects that should be of concern, however, include blood clots, pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis, Gallbladder damage, heart attack and stroke. If you are taking Yaz and begin to experience any unusual symptoms, it is important to see your doctor immediately.

Birth Control Pills Similar to Yaz

Makers of Yaz, Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals, also makes Yasmin (generic: Ocella), the only oral contraceptive similar to Yaz. Both pills combine drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol to prevent pregnancy. Because of the similar make-up, Yaz and Yasmin are associated with the same health risks and should be taken with caution.

Femiane birth control pill

Q: I need help finding the birth control pill Meliane in the US!?
I am trying to get a perscription for my birth control pill Meliane in the USA, but found out that it is sold under a different name here. please can someone help me find out how i can get information on this to find out its brand name in the US?

A: I had the same problem with the pill I was on when I moved to the US. I had to find out the hormone dose that was in the pill and tell it to my new OBGYN. Then she looked up a pill with the same dose and prescribed one for me.
If you look on the information page included with your current pill you can get the information there or call the pharmacy that filled the prescription and ask them for the composition of the pill. Thats what I ended up doing.

Q: When do you start taking femiane birth control for the first time if finished your period a few days ago do you have to wait for your next period to start how soon after is it safe for nprotected sex?

A: When you finish your pack of 21 pills you wait eight days and then start taking your pills again. Example if you started taking your pills on a Monday you should always start a new pack on that same day every time.

How to Use Birth Control Pills

There are many types of birth control pills. Some brands contain 28 pills (one for each day of your cycle); others only have 21 pills and allow you to take a week's break before starting the next cycle of pills. Read the instructions in the package and follow them carefully. For birth control pills to be most effective, you should take your pill at the same time each day.

Some things may stop the pill from working properly. The pill may not work as well:
  • during the first cycle when you are taking birth control pills for the first time;
  • during the first cycle when you are taking birth control pills again after being off them;
  • if you are taking antibiotics, antacids or medication that controls seizures (If your doctor gives you any new medication, ask if it will interfere with your birth control pills.);
  • if you have vomited or had diarrhea.
If these things happen when you are taking the pill, you should use another method of birth control as back up for one full week so you don't get pregnant.
